Raipur. Health Minister TS Singhdeo inaugurated country's first Excimer Laser Coronary Angioplasty (ELCA)  treatment for heart disease at the Advanced Cardiac Institute in Raipur. Today, while the whole world is fighting against the COVID epidemic through the vaccine, Chhattisgarh is making remarkable achievements in this and other health issues.  Advance Cardiac Institute is a heart hospital built by the state government for advanced therapy for heart diseases. Since its inception on November 1, 2017, the institute has led cardiac treatment in and around the state. The institute is one of the top cardiac hospitals in the country. ACI is also the first to perform advanced procedures in the state's government institute for complex cardiovascular diseases. The state government bears the expenses of advanced cardiac treatment through Dr Khubchand Baghel Health Assistance Scheme (DKBSSY); which is a simulation of National Health Services (NHS) from Great Britain. Dr Smit Srivastava, Head of the Department of Cardiology at the Advanced Cardiac Institute, explained that ELCA is the optimal treatment to treat hard blockages in the heart vessel. It uses excimer lasers to treat non-open blockages, very old total blockages, re-blockage of pre-stent stents, and large blood clots in emergency angioplasty. Traditional balloon angioplasty uses compressive force to remove blockages, while the ELCA vaporizes the coronary blockage.


Health Minister Shri TS Singhdeo reached the Advanced Cardiac Institute today and met a 46-year-old female patient who benefited from this facility. She was admitted to ACI with heart attacks, and recurrent chest pains and her coronary angiography revealed a ninety per cent blockage in the left first artery of the heart. Angioplasty by traditional ballooning was unsuccessful, because of fibrosis. Opening this blockage with the use of a laser is the best treatment. High energy lasers successfully vaporized the blockage and stents were placed to prevent future blockages. The patient might get discharged from the institute after two days of the procedure.
